Epilepsy is the third most common neurological disorder in the United States after Alzheimer's and stroke. It is equal in prevalence to cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease combined, with nearly three million people (one percent of the population) in the United States having some form of epilepsy. The Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan estimates that more than 100,000 people in the state have the disorder. In addition, a large number of adults and children have undetected or untreated epilepsy, but it should be known that anyone can develop epilepsy at any time. |
